My Doctor Told Me to Terminate my 2nd Trimester Pregnancy, And I Said No

After being married for 8 years, we finally conceived. My husband & I were particularly excited about that particular doctor’s visit because it was the first time my husband could join me. Previously he was on an extended business trip overseas. We just celebrated his birthday the day before, so seeing our baby on the monitor today would be a nice birthday gift for him.

As we have passed the first trimester a few weeks back, we were happy to be on the clear. We spoke about how to inform our families, as they were not aware of it yet. There’s no more reason to worry. Or so we thought.

As the black & white shadows appear on the screen, we were elated to see the fetus moving around. The doctor was a bit quieter than usual. She adjusted her tools as if the ultrasound machine was broken or something.

“I don’t want to scare you… but there seems to be something unusual”, she said.

“What’s the matter? There’s no heartbeat is it?”

“The heartbeat is there… But… There seems to be some swelling under the skin…“

At first, I didn’t understand what she meant. But I was assuming I needed to get on a diet or cut my salt or something like that.
